Steelers Win and Bacon Explosion - What a Night!

Quick post ... just back from the Super Bowl Party. Great night as the Steelers picked-up their sixth championship trophy! Great game - nail biter to the end.

For our Aussie friends ... the Arizona Cardinals kicker was the very first Australian to play in a Super Bowl.

Great food at my chef buddy's house ... amongst the gastronomical delights was Bacon Explosion! It is 2 pounds of bacon woven into a "blanket". Then sausage, cheese and caramelized onions are spread on the bacon, it is rolled and dry rubbed with BBQ seasoning then baked.

Two words: FREAKING AWESOME!!!!!

Here's some pictures:

Take the delicious slices and put them on a hard roll and there you go. Brought some leftovers home for a midnight snack.

Bacon munched.

Beer swilled.

Steelers win.

Yep, all in all, it is good to be the Rhino.

Regards,
Rhino

  3. Hi Rhino, is the recipe above about it or is there anything else I should know about before I launch myself into the kitchen to try it? Sounds like something my family would merrily nose dive as well as a great idea for an up coming party I am hosting for a crowd of drunk 18 - 20 year old boys. (Pray for me)
Good to hear you had such a great time, Daze.

  4. What, no turducken?

Having an Aussie play in the big game would be a bit more impressive if he wasn't (a) a washed up ex-AFL player from Geelong or (b) the fricken punter, and hence less important than the team bus driver, the dude who cues up the video for team meetings and the guy who trims Mike Tomlin's beard.

Congrats to the Steelers, nice touch with Large Ben crashing NFL Primetime on ESPN just as they were trying to say he'd done an a'ight job but it was more the Cards offense that had lost the thing than he'd won it...

Tomorrow morning, when you're sitting on the can, say to yourself...

"You don't get these pettin' kittycats."

BTW, I found a recipe for the bacon explosion. Tell me, does the bacon weave wrap round the ends too, or is it just exposed sausage at either end? And did they put crispy bacon in the middle too?

I think they should make a sport of bacon weaving...then we could have the Superpork. And I'm sure Australia would enter more than a punter.

Ah, I saw a news clip on that the other day. A local pair of men invented that. The BBQ pit boys I think.

I'm going to have to try that some time.

  8. @Abe - from what I could tell the bacon weave wraps around the ends - it was enclosed. And as to your second comment; that's why you drink beer to lube the passing.

@Murph - I saw it on the interwebs a couple of months ago and mentioned to my chef buddy - and then he saw a segment on the local Fox & Friends about it and decided to make it.

@Daze - I'll get the full recipe and post it.

@ Havock - Can you translate that?

@ Yobbo - Yeah, it was an ugly game in a lot of respects, penalties and all. A lot of Super Bowls are like that though ... maybe a nerves/adrenaline thing.

  9. I think that Abe beat you to the punch on the recipe - but we are looking for that elusive arts grant to practice our traditional 'bacon weaving' craft practice here in Oz...

What was that line? Ohh . . .'You don't get these from petting kitty cats'.

I think 'these' may mean the Rhino's love handles. Good recipe though.

Comments are welcome. However, being an ass may result in a horrible, albeit accidental, goring.
